This Site And How My Marketing Loft Can Help.

Who are my target customers?

If you are new to running a business, or even if you have owned a business for years, this is a question that you need to ask yourself. Without fully understanding who your target market is, you may not be maximizing your ability to bring in customers. More customers translate to higher sales and into more revenue.

This means the more you are able to pinpoint exactly who is most interested in your product the more likely you are to maximize your return on investment.

Narrowing down the customer pool.

There are many ways to narrow down exactly who is interested in your product. You can use surveys, polls of your existing customers or even use social media to create a survey.

But before you take those steps let us help and narrow down where to start looking.

Targeted Marketing is based on three major ideas:

  • Who is likely to use your product?
  • What are their demographics?
  • What are their psychographics?

Though that sounds like a lot of work, especially if you don’t understand what it all means, it is easier to begin to narrow your focus than you might think.

  • First, you must ask yourself ‘who did I design this product for’?
  • Then you need to look at are their demographics.
    • Age
    • Location
    • Gender
    • Income Level
    • Education Level
    • Marital or Family Status
    • Occupation
    • Ethnic Background

  • Finally, try and answer questions about their psychographics.
    • Personality
    • Attitudes
    • Values
    • Interests/Hobbies
    • Lifestyles
    • Behavior

Now, Narrow it down even more…

As you begin to answer the questions above it is also a good idea to look at your existing customers.

  • What are they like?
  • You also need to look at your competition
  • Who are their customers?
  • Finally, is there an ideal customer that fits your product that isn’t part of your customer base or your competitions customer base?
  • Who is this niche customer?

Put it all together.

Once you have figured out who best fits your product, their demographics, their psychographics and cross that with the customers you or your competition already has, then it is time to start looking at customer specific marketing.
